MEDIA COMPETENCE IN COLOMBIA: REFERENCE FRAMEWORKS FOR A DIAGNOSIS

Resulting from the relationships between humans and technology, and due to the changes regarding the uses of technology, new skills and behaviors are being developed, concerning content consumption and production in a highly interconnected world. Consequently, the need of considering learning skills in a new dimension emerges, acknowledging the human role in the intervention and modification of audiences’ behavior towards mass media during the last decades. In this sense, it is important to search, from the Media Competence, the configuration of new scopes and dimensions to comprehensively understand how today’s young move in that “liquid” universe, of which Bauman speaks of –which is also present in teaching and learning processes. Researchers from the Santiago de Cali University, the Pontifical Xavierian University and the University of Huelva, developed a conceptual and methodological discussion addressing how to weigh Media Competence in teenagers between 14 and 17 years, belonging to educational institutions from the cities of Cali, Roldanillo, Jamundi, Candelaria and Buenaventura (Valle del Cauca region, southwest Colombia).
