Historiography on pictorial art in colonial Cuba in the 19th century
Main Article Content
In the research on academic colonial painting that has been carried out in Cuba, there are currently periodizations and articles that aim to record its evolution in the 19th century; however, a greater number of studies is necessary to allow the expansion of knowledge in certain thematic areas, time frames or artists. For these reasons, in this work we expose which representative texts and what is the history that they reveal, which constitutes the first step in that scarce universe of texts that treat the academic colonial painting produced in Cuba. The analysis that is developed is not totalizing, but rather complementary. In it, researchers can find a reference on which to start to develop their studies. In the same way, a descriptive statistical analysis is exposed that allows knowing in a quantitative way and in greater profusion the set of texts studied in terms of quantity, composition, types of sources, etc.
